Dell laptops : the multibay

I think every Latitude fan should have one: a separate mediabay (aka multibay). You can mount anything in it that has a 44 pin ATA connector, such as

As you see, this looks just like the backside of a CD-ROM drive. But it isn't.

And this is the topside that seems to be identical to a CD-ROM drive as well.

The lid is off. There's a hole in the interior of the mediabay.

As you see: a lot of space to accept any kind of gadget.


Mediabay connector

This is the 44 pin ATA connector which is typical for 2.5" harddisks. If your gadget fits this connector (and fits the rectangular cavity) then you can use it.

One example of use: as a caddy to mount an extra harddisk (for maintenance, backup, you name it).
