ETT boards : Mini powersupply

I must admit I fell in love with these small boards. ETT made what I have been thinking about for the last decade. Take this switch mode power supply module. It uses a National Semiconductor LM 2575 Simple Switcher chip. Feed it with 7 - 12 Volts of DC or AC and it pumps out a reliable 5 Volts.

Despite the silkscreen of the PCB, the polarity of the input signal is irrelevant. There's a bridge rectifier on board so that says it all. Ett have used big enough capacitors and the coil looks professional. It certainly isn't a simple choke.

If you look at the picture you see two sets of terminal blocks above and below the simple switcher. These are the terminals for picking up power (above the LM) and GROUND (below). Each signal has 10 male and 10 female contacts for mating with.

In the upper righthand corner is a small LED to indicate that the 5 Volt is present. All in all this is a very fine board. And it works like a charm on 9 Volts AC.

ETT MiniPower : manual

This module, codename 'ET-Mini Pwr5' is a 1 Ampere switch mode power supply. It has an indicator LED to show the 5 Volt is present. The unit accepts between 7 and 12 Volts of DC (or 6 - 9 Volts AC) via its 2.5 mm barrel connector. Contrary to what the silkscreen mentions, the polarity of the power input is irrelevant.
