The Parino systems floppy disk
Most of the files on this disk are also printed out. In case you loose part of this printed out material, enter the respective part in an editor and act as you please: read it on screen, edit it, or just print it on your own printer. For those people that have taken the time to install the PADS software, you can use and process the original hardware sources.
There are two kinds of files on this disk. The first group have the 'EXE' extension and the second group have the 'TXT' extension. The TXT files cam be read directly. The EXE files are socalled 'self-extracting files'. If you start such a file, it will unwrap itself. For example, try Topside.Exe. It will produce a file called Topside.Lj. This is a file that you can copy to your laserprinter and it will produce a new copy of the topside drawing. The act of copying is done like follows:
copy topside.lj prnAll EXE files produce HP Laserjet IIP files.
For those who prefer to work with the Parino card from a compiled language I have produced a second device
driver. You must load and install this in exactly the same way as the standard Parino.Sys device driver via
Config.Sys.
The alternate device driver is named Pariox.Sys and produces a second device named Pariox41 (or -42 or -43).
This device driver also controls the Parino card connected to the specified LPT port. The benefit of having
two device drivers with different names is that you can have one open for reading from the card and one for
writing to the card. This facilitates that you don't have to open and close the driver very frequently.
The Test directory contains some sample and example programs (developed with and for Micro$oft QBASIC) for controlling a simple crane. This simple crane however becomes a very instructive toy. Another application is a LEGO conveyor belt that can discriminate between coloured LEGO blocks.
