Welcome to Dutch Match!

Dutch Match

Dutch Match is the world leading supplier of match sticks. On one end of our factory we take in the pine trees by the truck- or wagonload. On the other end we load the wagons again with match sticks.
All of our sticks are shipped to professional matchmakers all over the world. They apply the pyrotechnics and box them up under their own brand. We supply to all major matchmakers.
Due to the scale of our operation we are the biggest supplier of bare match sticks in the world.

Second to none in volume,
second to none in quality!

Factory tour

We would love to show you are modern machines for producing match sticks, but the competition is fierce and we must keep our production machines secret. There's too much at stake for us. In short this is what it comes down to:

  1. We buy wood from various sources
  2. 75% of the wood arrives by train, 15% by truck and the rest by boat
  3. In the first step we debark the trees
  4. Next we remove four thin layers of veneer (ThinVen, ®)
  5. The trees are moved to another section by conveyor belts
  6. The peeled trunks are shortened to 1 meter long MLT's
  7. The meterlong trunks (MLT) are mounted in the end-peelers
  8. The MLT's are transformed into intermediate veneer sheets of the right thickness
  9. The production veneer is treated with coatings per specification of the customer
  10. The production veneer is conditioned in the vaccuum warehouse
  11. After 1 day the production veneer is cut to sheets of 1 meter square
  12. The square sheets are stored in the sheet warehouse at subzero temperature
  13. The square sheets are cut to width in longitudal splicers
  14. The wooden spaghetti's are cut to length in the cross cutter
  15. The bare matchsticks are airlifted to the stick hopper
  16. From the stick hopper, the bare matches are aligned and packed in small rectangular boxes
  17. The boxes are stored in bigger boxes and loaded on pallets
  18. The pallets are ready for shipment
We have a continuous process with several production lines. The bark and scrap wood is used to fuel our own powerplant which makes us a zero emission green facility (carbondioxide neutral at worst).
Our production secrets are essential for our operations so we did not patent them. A patent requires us telling how we do things and it enables others to copy our process. Therefore we believe in absolute secrecy and in dedicated and wellpaid crews. We are especially proud in the way in which we box up the bare sticks. This took us many many years to develop and tune.
