Various subjects on Fruttenboel

This is a collection of projects that have not had additions since quite some time now. If you want some more attention to one of these topics, give me a signal.

The topics

Below is a list of not really related projects. As with all similar pages on this site (Fruttenboel) you need to navigate with the Navigator frame on the right. This is a summary file.

Google

My fight against the God of Internet: Google. Nobody fucks with Google. So it Google starts a fight with you, you're on your own.

POOH

An index of the magazines I used to store in the attic. I never read in them so last year I offered them to the local paper recycler. They're being turned into newspapers right now. The index is still here. Search it with Ctrl-F.

Gzipped HTML

I ran some tests with gzipping HTML files to save on data, bandwidth, diskstorage, etc. A gzipped HTML file is not indexed by all search engines.

Plywood plotter

Make yourself a plywood plotter. Total costs should remain well below € 100. Started, never finished. I ran into Oberon....

I burnt the wood and salvaged the parts for making a rabbit cage.

Loose ends

All the things I wanted to start but never did. See it, read it, let yourself be inspired. Don't ask me what or why or when. I forgot.

Meguro DSO

Some time ago I bought a Digital Storage Oscilloscope on Ebay. Since then I did not use it... Read about what I have to tell about the machine.

Beppy, the EEPROM programmer for the LPT port

Build a cheap and sophisticated EEPROM programmer (and ROM reader) for the printer port.

Machines

If you got a new toy, what else can you do than open it to see how it was made and how it works? And that's just what this page is about. Engineering!

RAM cell charger

My experiences with the Rechargable Alkaline Manganese cells. Not so positive. Things could have changed but in 2001 this technology was still rather immature. And dangerous.

Solder dispenser

Go to your workshop and look for some pieces of scrap wood and metal. From these worthless topics, vreate a valuable solder dispenser tool. This page describes two models, both easy to make and customize.

Raupe robot platform

Use this robot base for your robotic experiments. The Raupe was made by fitting parts together from Winkler Spielzeug from Austria. This robotic kit is very cheap yet extensible.

Harvest your battery clips

Open up your discharged 9 Volt battery blocks. Inside cane be a very strong battery clip to make your own clips. Your's will neve wear out anymore, unlike the flimsy kind which is sold in stores.

Open frame power supply

In order to save on power outlets I designed and made this open frame power supply that converts 9 Volts AC in 12 Volts DC, 6.5 Volts DC, 5 Volts DC and a minor portion of heat. The OFPS is monted on a piece of timber (multiplex). No metalwork required.

I am a Fonero now: I run a social router.

I installed a Fonera social router in the living room. We now have full wireless access in and around the house at high speed plus we have an 'open' accesspoint (in the same radius) for all Linuses.

Going VoIP instead of normal telephony?

I have seriously considered migrating from the traditional telephone system (based on landlines, owned by a big company with lots of resources) in favor of going VoIP (Voice over IP), also known as Internet telephony. This topic is about the struggle and what I finaly decided.

Fuse protected Power Distributor I

In my dungeon, I have one cable coming form the big fat toroid transformer mentioned below. It powers many small gadgets when needed. I use the Power Distributor to enable multiple gadget access to the 9 Volts AC or 12 Volts DC.

Self resetting fusebox

In the powermeter closet I have this big fat toroid tranformer (2 x 9 Volts @ 81 VA) which powers various machines and controllers all over the house. Plus the doorbell of course. In order to protect the transformer I made this fusebox based on PolyFuses (self resetting polymet fuses).

Repairing my LG 'WD 1460 FD' washing machine

Suddenly the machine refused to finish its washing cycle. It stopped at 4-5 minutes prior to releasing the doorlock. I called the LG service dpt and got a clue to fix it myself. So I did.
